Foot Health First for a Better You

Sometimes it’s easy to overlook your feet, as we often tend to focus on just about everything from the ankle up. However, we are ready to advocate for a new approach. Maybe it’s better to start from the ground up. That is, put your foot health first to help better your general well-being.

Even though we may neglect foot health from time to time, the fact of the matter is it’s a simple thing to accomplish. And what’s more, taking care of your feet can pay dividends for your overall welfare. Heed the following advice for better foot health and, ultimately, a better you.

Start your foot health overhaul with an easy one: your footwear. You may not always be able to control how much or how little you have to be on your feet any given day, but you can almost always choose to wear supportive footwear. Make sure that your shoes fit correctly. A fit that’s either too loose or too tight can cause unwanted calluses and painful blisters, as well as force you to spend extra time tending to these problems.

Perform stretching and exercises when possible throughout your day to keep your feet loose and avoid soreness. There are many easy foot exercises you can perform and oftentimes you don’t even have to get out of your comfy chair to do them. A move as simple as rolling a ball (a golf or tennis ball, for instance) beneath the sole of your foot can go a long way to keeping your feet fresh.

At the end of the day, make sure to literally put your feet up. Elevating your feet may help reduce inflammation and swelling after long day. This will allow you to get right back at it the next day—mentally and physically.

Lastly, take care of your skin. Neglecting the skin on your feet can lead to unappealing hard skin. Follow these foot care steps and not only will your feet be feeling much better, but you will be, too.
